In an open letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak, signatories said an extra holiday would “provide a moment every year for individuals and communities to come together, to thank those who have contributed in ways big and small to making our country a better place to live”.
He acknowledged both he and the prime minister wanted a "low-tax, high-growth economy, and world class public services", but Mr Sunak said this could only be "responsibly delivered if we are prepared to work hard, make sacrifices and take difficult decisions".
